I finally got the quilt top all pieced. The pattern is called Strip Cocktail, and this took 2 jelly rolls plus some extra light fabrics. I was going to put a border on it, but now I’m thinking about just leaving it as is. Anyone care to give an opinion on that idea?
I think it depends on what it’s being made for. For a sofa quilt it looks to be about the right size now. asthetically, though, I’d put a border on it to wrap the design together. I love the fabrics you used in this one!
O.K. Lynn, your quilt looks great. What was it you didn’tlike about Jelly Rolls?
Hey Vicki! Love the colors, found it hard to use the very tip of the pinked edge to get my seam allowance. The edges of the strips were stretched, making them a bit wonky.
If it were mine, I would put a border on it. I love the colors and the design, but it seems to end in midair if that makes any sense:) It’s late and I’ve had a couple of margaritas. Lynnie, I’m sorry you weren’t here to enjoy them with me. Did ya buy your plane ticket yet?
My opinion is that it needs a border. Do you have any coordinating fabric? I like the quilt, and I love that fabric line too.
Only 2 more weeks!!! See you soon.
OK I think I am on the outside here, but I like it just the way it is. I think that comes from my love of antique scrap quilts as most of those didn’t have a border either. Maybe just a smidge larger than normal binding, but even a regular would be fine. I would vote to not a border.
I’d find that stripe and cut a bias binding and take a nap under it!
I vote for NO border! Sometimes borders becomes…well…predictable. To me, predictable equals boring.
I’m sure a border on it would look fine but Diane’s comment regarding scrap quilts often not having borders, and perhaps using a slightly wider binding, is correct, imo.
Love the colors!
i vote no border too but it’s just personal preference….i don’t think a border would look bad…..
looks to be a nice size the way it is. 🙂 i’ve been no help whatsoever have i?
Hi Mrs. Lynnie, I love your Strip Cocktail! If it were mine, I’d put a narrow border on it. Some quilts look great without a border, but I think this one would do better with one, because of the busy-ness of the pattern and the fabrics. Either way, it’s a very cool quilt!
Hmmm. I was going to vote for no border, but I like Linda’s idea of a very narrow border. So, yeah, do it that way!
I like Linda’s idea, too!
I think it is lovely as is. Great pattern and color choices!
Lynn I vote no border too. I think it looks great.
I love the colors.
I think I’m a little late weighing in here…but I like it as is…or a very narrow border. Great quilt!!!
I’m late too but I vote for narrow border. Needs a lil framing:) cool quilt too… :::waving to u:::
I think it looks great without a border. How will you quilt it?
Hi
I love the quilt. I would do a border that is either a fabric with circles, or would quilt a circular border.
I was browsing through strip quilts on the net and came across this photo. It’s given me an idea what to do for my brother-in-law’s quilt. He lives in Hawaii, so I’m using an Alexander Henry pin ups fabric; have fussy cut the lovely ladies, but just couldn’t decide on anything I liked. Now I’m looking forward to getting the rest of my fabric together. Nice strips background with ‘sorta windows’ of lovely ladies floating on top. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
You are most welcome, Alice! I’m glad that I could be of inspiration!
